Stillness, poor ventilation: on a home trainer, you sweat a lot. We must therefore equip ourselves accordingly, and put on the right clothes. That is to say ?
La home trainer practice supposes to set up preparation rituals specific to this training. Cycling clothing and equipment must be adapted to this unavoidable reality: whatever the environment in which the home trainer is practiced, our body heat rises quickly, very quickly.
Home trainer: what are the common mistakes?
No'indoor cycling training has very little to do with the exercise bike that our grandparents practiced, on the benevolent advice of their family doctor. In recent years, the indoor cycling market has experienced meteoric rise. THE'e-cycling has entered. Even pro teams are doing it. Therefore, if you want to seriously practice the training bike in indoor mode, there are three mistakes to avoid.
- First error : the place where you ride an indoor bike ... The living room or living room, even the office, are the rooms where we are rather inactive. And so, for the sake of comfort, they are also the warmest in the house. Either you reduce heating in these rooms if you do your bike training there, or you prefer a cool room (garage, halls and wide corridors, balconies…)
- Second error : when you start the indoor bike, you tend to wear the lightest possible outfit. As if to reduce the risk of excessive sweating. But we forget one detail: it's not the clothing that makes you sweat, it's stillness. Suddenly, sweat trickles down the face, along the arms, the palms of the hands, the chest ... In short, nothing retains the amounts of water that you lose.
- Third error : forget them essential accessories to manage perspiration, to hydrate and getfuel during exercise, and to protect its soil and its environment.
In short. Whatever your cycling practice: outdoors, mountain biking, road, or indoors - long or short session - the choice of clothes and equipment contributes to the quality andefficiency of your training.
Home trainer clothing is cycling clothing
So: even in home training, wear your cycling clothes. Swimsuit, shorts, socks ...? Yes, but, again, not just any.
In fact, the choice of indoor clothing does not contain body temperature. But it aims to provide the maximum comfort - to compensate for immobility - and prevents you from liquefying on your bike and your floor - hygiene issue and breathability.
A “good piece of clothing” for indoor cycling?
Breathing and managing sweating are the two key concepts, you will understand.
Personally, I favor:
- un shorts, light, very breathable. Preferably seamless to avoid irritation. Some prefer shorts to bib shorts to dispense with fabric and tension on the chest and shoulders
- un breathable jersey, also very light. It is out of the question to practice the shirtless home trainer, gentlemen. You run uselessly, and your sweat drips on your bike and on the ground.
- a pair of mittens. Yes, perfectly: mittens to retain perspiration from the hands and wetness on the handlebars. Some adopt the towel extended on the hanger. At the risk of pinching it in the brakes by changing the gears, on some models.
Of course, I also equip myself with a towel, which I leave nearby to wipe my face and arms. Ah and also: I put a cap, to prevent sweat from running into the eyes.
Finally, among the accessories, a carpet to protect the ground or a mesh of perspiration to stretch over the frame of the bike. And above all, above all: 1 or even 2 adults drinking cans. Especially after the session, to facilitate rehydration.
